The C.Scope Cable Avoidance Tool features three familiar detection modes (Power, Radio, and Transmitter), each offering its own specific advantages. Many users are already familiar with these operating modes.
- Power mode: The fastest way to detect most underground electrical cables by detecting the signal produced by the electrical current itself.
- RADIO mode: Detects re-radiated radio-type signals commonly found in metal pipes and cables, allowing their location to be determined using only the cable avoidance tool.
- Transmitter mode: Used to detect the signal transmitted by the C.Scope SGA3 transmitter to a metal pipe or cable. This mode can also be used to detect the signal from the C.Scope Sonde device for tracing non-metallic pipes.

When connected to the C.Scope SGA3 transmitter and accessories, it becomes a versatile cable and pipe locating and tracing system.
